WEFRANCHIZ INSIGHTS – AFRICAN FRANCHISING ON THE MOVE. Events, data, new brands, and analysis of the trends transforming franchising in Africa.
INTRO.
Franchising in Africa is scaling up.
It is no longer limited to a handful of pioneering brands: it is attracting new investors, building on reliable data, and gaining a foothold in markets that previously lacked their own ecosystem.
This issue highlights the month’s key events: a gathering of the sector’s key players, insights from our Barometer, brands accelerating their growth, and an exploration of what makes a franchise concept strong on the international stage.

A Look Back at WeFranchiz Days
Nearly 600 qualified participants met with 10 franchise brands.
The June 24, 2026 edition of WeFranchiz Days confirmed the growing appetite for franchise investment across the continent. Nearly 600 qualified participants – individual investors, multi-unit group owners, and business buyers seeking a structured project – came to engage directly with 10 franchise brands actively expanding.
Thanks to an upfront scoring of candidate profiles, the meetings were targeted and productive : each franchise met with investors whose budget, geographic area, and motivations truly aligned with its development plans.
Key takeaway : Today’s franchise candidates are better informed and have higher expectations regarding the support offered — a strong signal for brands preparing to expand into Africa.

Insights from the WeFranchiz Barometer2025 – 2026
Understanding the new generation of franchise candidates in Africa. Based on a survey of franchise candidates in Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, and Ivory Coast, the WeFranchiz Barometer outlines the profile of a new generation of investors. Four comparative trends emerge :
Awareness of franchising : recognition of the model is clearly on the rise, but there are marked differences from one market to another – more than 86% in Tunisia and 76% in Senegal – which show that education remains a key challenge for conversion in certain sub-Saharan African countries.
Investment intent : strong stated intent, driven by the search for “turnkey” concepts rather than starting from scratch – more than 2/3 of respondents say they are interested in the franchise model.
Preferred Sectors : Fast food and retail are the preferred sectors in Tunisia and Morocco. In contrast, in markets where capital raising is more limited, the service sectors are the ones most frequently cited. Generally speaking, the franchise model spans a wider range of sectors in a mature market like Tunisia, where respondents cite businesses such as pet stores, real estate agencies, amusement parks, etc.
Available budgets and need for support: entry costs vary significantly by country (Morocco ranks first with a median indicating a budget exceeding 50,000 Euros and a near-unanimous demand for enhanced support with financing and operations).
THE FINDINGS
These results confirm what WeFranchiz has been observing in the field for several years : data is becoming a decision-making tool in its own right, for both franchise brands and investors. It is this conviction that makes WeFranchiz the leading franchise data platform in Africa.

Event Recap – WeFranchiz and ADEPME SENEGAL
The webinar series organized by WeFranchiz in partnership with ADEPME in Senegal continued in September 2026 with a new session focused on franchise financing.
After discussing the transformation of SMEs into franchise networks, this session provided an opportunity to revisit the key financial considerations to master before launching a franchise: structuring the investment, KPIs to monitor, profitability, access to financing, and the franchisor’s role in supporting the franchisee.
The series will continue shortly with new sessions dedicated to the development of franchising in Senegal.

The Expert’s Perspective
The Operations Manual : A Simple Technical Guide or a Reflection of Our Cultures ?
At the core of every successful franchise, the operations manual plays a central role : it is what allows a concept to be structured and replicated identically, from one location to another, from one country to another. But this approach to standardization does not always align with the cultural realities of our African markets, where the informal sector plays a significant role and where know-how is still often passed down orally, from manager to employee, rather than through a written document.
This discrepancy should not lead us to abandon the operations manual – on the contrary, it is what ensures a consistent customer experience and protects the brand’s DNA. But it does require us to rethink how we bring it to life on the ground.
A manual that remains a binder opened only once during initial training is of no use to anyone: we need to come up with new ways to encourage teams to read it, make it their own, and follow it every day – short, visual formats; regular reminders during team meetings; video tutorials in the local language; gamification; and on-the-job trainers – rather than simply handing out a document at the start of a contract. It is this ability to bridge the gap between the written and the spoken word, and between corporate standards and local culture, that sets apart the brands that establish a lasting presence in Africa.
